Tuesday 29 October F2F– Supporting Mental Health - A Managers guide

Manchester Mind would like to invite you to attend the Mental Health Awareness Training

This course is running on Tuesday 29 October 2024.

This full day training comprises of two half day sessions, both will be up to 3 hours long and must be attended in full, unfortunately we cannot record sessions.

The training is delivered in a supportive environment by our practised trainers who bring their own lived experience and knowledge to facilitate open discussion and provide expert guidance.

We understand that talking about mental health isn’t always easy, particularly when times are as challenging as they are right now. As we don’t have any prior knowledge of you and your past experiences, we want to make sure you are keeping safe. So if you have any concerns before, during, or after the session, please let us know by emailing training@manchestermind.org, or you can call our switchboard on 0161 769 5732. If something doesn’t feel right, you can leave at any time, but please follow the ground rules set at the beginning of the session (usually we ask to make the trainer aware if you need to leave the session for any reason).

Learning aims:

  • To examine the preconceptions and fears surrounding mental health
  • To increase awareness of mental health issues and the impact that poor mental health has on an individual’s day to day life
  • To increase knowledge and confidence when supporting people with mental health issues

Course content:

Part 1 - Mental Health Awareness

  • What is mental health?
  • Causes, signs and symptoms of key mental health conditions
  • How to support someone in mental distress
  • Signposting to local and national support

Part 2 - A Managers' Guide

  • The current picture in mental health and why it's important to invest
  • The Core and Enhanced Mental Health Standards and how to implement them
  • Relevant tools and resources and where to find them

  • Strategies for developing a positive team culture and a mentally healthy workplace

The training is experiential so although there are slides, we’ll have lots of discussions within the session. Self-care is a top priority in all of our training. The course is delivered in a very supportive environment and our trainer will be available after the session to offer any further guidance or support.

How will the booking process work:

  • Please register your place using the "Register Now" button on this page
  • You will be asked for your email address which is how we will communicate with you before and after the course
  • Full joining instructions and reminders will be emailed shortly before the course starts
  • If you, would prefer future communication in alternative forms to emails please let me know

We want to make the course as accessible as possible, if there’s anything you would like to talk through with us beforehand, e.g. something you’re struggling with at the moment that you’d like us to be aware of; accessibility needs such as captions/subtitles/large print – anything that might make the training run more smoothly for you – please do get in touch via training@manchestermind.org
